Where Were You?

Where were you when “President Obama”, a phrase that requires getting used to, was elected?  This may not be the question people ask as easily as they ask where people were when 9/11 happened, but it will be something they think about.

So, where was I?

I was in New Delhi, India.  I woke up early to get online.  I knew the cable TV was going to give bad reception.  Plus I wasn’t going to get CNN or ABC or CBS.  It took me sometime to find a channel that was broadcasting election news by giving state election results and having discussion in between.  I found CNN.  It wasn’t the channel shown on TV.  It was a web-based version (or an international version).  It didn’t feel right.  I kept on looking and eventually found ABC News was streaming live!  That was it!

The rest of the time I listened to the news and saw the results coming in.  It became increasingly clear that Obama was not only going to win, but by a very large margin.  I had my laptop streaming ABC and worked on another computer.  After an hour and a half and as voting results were starting to come in, I put everything else way and just listened to the news.

That’s where I was.  At home in India.  Watching ABC News via internet.  On my laptop.
